In my assignment this week I praised the internet , 'ALL HAIL THE INTERNT SEARCH ENGINE".
Then the internet has to get all personal and make me look bad. Using the google search engine I looked for Wikipedia mistakes and errors. Here are two of the biggest if you actually care.
1. Ted Kennedy’s death: No the chowder head had not kicked the bucket "yet".Reported way to early it was only a stroke.
2. Miley Cyrus’ death I know what your thinking I actually checked this one before I twittered about it, being a huge fan of her alter ego Hannah Montana .. Hearing my 10 year old daughter talk , miley may be dead as it is all the girls on the playground seemed to be over her.
I do not think rushing to the computer to search for things is "bad" , but it is the same as everything else, it needs to be taken with some reality . We are fast becoming a society where you do not need to leave your house, it may only be a little time before our childrens school work will be piped in via broadband. You can get a Wii (video game entertainment system) for your excercise and at the same time subscribe to netflix which is downloaded through the internet to your Wii to watch movies.
Why do I put this down, becuase it is hard to think of something as bad, when it seeks to do nothing but make our lifes easier.
How do we get the word out that there are other ways to search, I think that is a lost cause. You have librarys updating there computer system and putting more books on e-books. You have books that can be downloaded to electronic readers that are smaller then most books.
Occasionally there will be a teacher somewhere in some institue that will want you to do it old school and pic up a book , look through a micefilm catalog , but the futre is here there is no way to reverse it.

I think that computers will catch on to everyone. Even though they will not want to most children are not doing homework on computers, they may be at school, and not in the home todate. Most of the children in lower grade superise me when they tell me they have computer homework. give it another year.
ReplyDeleteI'm not saying that computers or the Internet is bad... oh no, not at all. I am saying let's not forget that there are other ways of searching for information, reliable information, that is actually much easier than searching through all that goop you find in your Google search. As we progress through the course and use these other resources, I'd like to hear your opinion at the end of the class. :)
